TEACHER POSITION: KINDERGARTEN/FIRST GRADE TEACHER

About Us:
Agia Sophia Academy is an Orthodox Private School in Beaverton, Oregon offering a K-5 Elementary Program and a Montessori Pre-School. Our mission is to educate the whole child by providing a rich academic curriculum grounded in Orthodox Christian values, while fostering love of learning, personal responsibility and respect for each person. Accordingly, we have set the following goals:

Job Announcement:
We are currently looking for an Early Childhood Elementary Teacher that is a practicing Christian, who views this position and Agia Sophia Academy as a ministry and an opportunity to serve God. The Candidate must be able to instruct students in all subject areas, including math, reading, writing, social studies, science, handwriting, spelling, social skills and moral development. This teacher will be expected to regularly assess student progress and communicate with the parents on a regular basis. Curriculum development, classroom setup and the ability to implement the school’s vision is a must. This position will require an energetic teacher with a love for integrating curriculum and interest in being part of a small growing school.
In addition, the ideal applicant will demonstrate the following: excellent verbal and written communication skills; computer and word processing skills; must be a life-long learner, who is both flexible and adaptable; the ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team; and the ability to create a positive and nurturing Christian environment for the student.
Reports To: Principal
Length of Assignment: 10 month school year
Principle Duties:

Instruct and assess students
-
Curriculum development and implementation.

Manage classrooms of multi-age groupings and different learning styles
-
Maintain frequent contact with parents
-
Encourage and develop Community Partnerships and Volunteerism

Maintain the continuity of the Orthodox Faith throughout the curriculum

Work cooperatively with other teachers and staff
-
Screen current and prospective students and participate in Admissions
-
Serve on committees and engage in group work as necessary
Qualifications:
-
Practicing Christian
-
Bachelors Degree
-
Oregon Teaching License or Comparable Teaching Experience with willingness to pursue state licensure

Early Elementary (K-2) Teaching Experience

The ideal candidate should have a working knowledge and understanding of the Christian view of the whole person-body and soul-and an interest in each student's Christian formation; good leadership skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and must be a life-long learner, who is both flexible and adaptable. The position requires a high level of stamina; a love and understanding of children and early childhood; knowledge and understanding of learning strategies to support all students in learning to use their minds well; the ability to develop, integrate and implement curriculum; the ability to provide connectedness for learners; the ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team; and the ability to create a positive and nurturing Christian environment for the student.
